Executive Director Kate Sheridan departs from the Flathead Lakers
Dear Flathead Lakers members and friends,
I wanted to share my decision with all of you to step down as Executive Director of Flathead Lakers to pursue a new professional opportunity. This decision has not been made lightly, as I have deeply valued my time at Flathead Lakers and the profound impact we have had together on the preservation and protection of the Flathead Watershed.
Over the past four years, we have witnessed incredible achievements, including: the permanent protection of Bad Rock Canyon, conservation easements in the Flathead Valley, and our newest state park on Somers Beach. We have a strong community of watershed protectors who have helped us keep Flathead Lake free of invasive mussels, speak against policy that threatens water quality, and think creatively about how to solve infrastructure issues, from septic systems to wastewater.
During the last four years, we’ve grown our staff and board, bringing in new energy and ideas, and expanding our reach, as well as establishing our presence with a new office and mural. These accomplishments are a testament to the unwavering support of our donors, the dedication of our staff and volunteers, and the collaborative spirit that defines our watershed community.
While I am proud of what we have accomplished together, I believe this is the right time for me to transition my focus to new opportunities that align with my professional goals, and my desire to return to political work. This decision does not diminish my commitment to Flathead Lake and the mission of Flathead Lakers. I will continue to be a supporter of the organization and its efforts to protect this precious natural resource.
As I depart, I am confident that the Flathead Lakers is well-positioned to continue its remarkable legacy. We have a talented and passionate team in place, a strong network of supporters, and a clear vision for the future. I am excited to watch the organization continue to flourish under new leadership. Our Board has established an Executive Director Search Committee and is working with an outside consultant to ensure a thoughtful and timely process for my replacement. Should you have any questions about the role at the Flathead Lakers, please email careers@flatheadlakers.org.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have served as Executive Director of Flathead Lakers. My last day of work will be November 28th. We will be having a farewell gathering at the office that afternoon, beginning at 4pm, for anyone who would like to stop by. It has been an honor to work alongside such a remarkable group of individuals who are committed to safeguarding the natural beauty of Flathead Lake for generations to come.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Kate
