Join the 4th Annual Flathead Lake Secchi Dip-in effort this July!

Become a citizen science volunteer and participate in our 4th Annual Flathead Lake Secchi Dip-in, which takes place during the month of July. Volunteers lower their black and white disks into the water on a sunny day, until it is no longer visible and note the depth it disappeared.

Watch NALMS: How to take a Secchi depth video. You can find additional information, and a link to enter in your data at flatheadlakers.org/citizen-science-data-portal.

Flathead Lake’s incredible water clarity is world renowned and unique, especially as lakes across the world become more polluted and less clear. It is important that Flathead Lake participates in this annual Secchi Dip-in, to include our data in nationwide trends but also for us to keep an eye on our lake and watershed.

If you’re interested in participating in this year’s Secchi Dip-in, contact me, Hilary Devlin, at hilary@flatheadlakers.org or 406-883-1341 for more information, or to pick up your Secchi Disk. If you have participated in the past, dust off your Secchi disk, and look for an upcoming email for more details. Also, review materials found at flatheadlakers.org/citizen-science-data-portal. Thank you!
