Owen Sowerwine Conservation Easement
The Flathead Lakers, in partnership with the Flathead Land Trust, Flathead Audubon, and Montana Audubon will be supporting the proposal to purchase a 442- acre conservation easement on the Owen Sowerwine property along the Flathead & Stillwater Rivers.
The proposed conservation easement would generate income for schools as well as ensure the land's natural values continue to be protected and open to the public for conservation education, bird-watching, fishing, walking and hunting.
Bad Rock Canyon Conservation Project
UPDATE: We are so excited to let you know that pending a new grant award, the fundraising gap for the Bad Rock Canyon Conservation project has been closed, and the necessary funding reached to assist Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks with the purchase of the 772-acre Bad Rock Canyon property!
We are excited to announce that we will be working with our Flathead River to Lake Initiative partners to help purchase 772 acres along the Flathead River near Columbia Falls.
These lands include over 1.1 miles of river, 80 acres of wetlands, 120 acres of cottonwood forests, and a warm spring.
They are not only important for sustaining clean water, but also provide vital habitat and travel corridors for bull trout and grizzly bears, winter range for elk and moose, and a stop for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds.
The Flathead Lakers, together with the Flathead Land Trust and other River to Lake Initiative partners, are committing to support Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks raise $500,000 by the end of next year. That funding would allow us to secure state and federal grants for over $6.5 million to purchase the property.

Somers Beach State Park Project, North Shore of Flathead Lake
The Flathead Lakers are working with the Flathead Land Trust; Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks; and other Flathead River to Lake Initiative partners to acquire a unique piece of property on the North Shore of Flathead Lake, near Somers, to create a state park.
We are excited at the prospect of this new, much needed and desired public access on the north shore of Flathead Lake. This project has amazing potential to increase outdoor recreation opportunities on a beautiful jewel in the Flathead Valley for future generations to come.
