Talks, Workshops and Tours

Community Talks

The staff and board members welcome invitations to community groups, neighborhood meetings, and coffee clubs to present important lake issues and the Flathead Lakers to the public.

Living by Water Workshop

The Living by Water Workshop encourages lakeshore and stream and river bank property owners to implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) on their property. These BMPs may include maintaining or planting native vegetation buffer gardens between lawns, roads, or buildings and the water to help prevent polluted runoff from reaching Flathead Lake and its tributaries. The workshop includes a field trip to a site that demonstrates streambank restoration techniques and BMPs. Participants may request a site visit to from a professional to learn more about restoration options and BMPs appropriate for their property.

Walk and Talk Tours

Our ‘Ripples of Change’ project has helped install two beautiful demonstration ‘Buffer Gardens’ along Flathead Lake.  The Flathead Lakers will be hosting two Walk and Talk tours and Native Plant Workshops. In mid-Summer, we will be showcasing a three year old ‘buffer garden’ in Polson and a newly established buffer in Lakeside in the fall.  Andrew Beltz and the Center for Native Plants will be showing us how to use beautiful Montana native plants to help protect Flathead Lake.  We will also discuss simple changes and practices you can adopt to live more lake-friendly.
