Laney Hanzel

Laney is a retired Montana Fisheries Biologist, 1995, living and enjoying life in Kalispell. He worked on Flathead Lake for nearly 30 years investigating and monitoring the fisheries of the lake. He was the skipper of the two research boats the “Dolly Varden” and “Bull Trout” and helped develop and adapt many of the big water sampling techniques for inland waters.

He does not spend as much time fishing as when he was working but does enjoy being on the lake on an occasional fishing trip or sailing with family and friends.

He and wife Betty have been married for 40 years and have four children. They produced two boys and two girls, who now all live in or near Kalispell. Laney also enjoys spending time at his computer on the Internet or spoiling his five grandchildren.

He has been a member of the Lakers since he moved to the area in 1959 and has a keen interest in working with others people or agencies to help preserve this valley’s most wonderful asset, Flathead Lake.
