ACTION ALERT: MT FWP seeks public comment on mandatory AIS boat inspections in the Flathead Basin.

ACTION ALERT: Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks is seeking public comment on making the mandatory inspection before launch rule for the Flathead Basin PERMANENT.

The rule requires all watercraft and equipment traveling that have been used on waters outside of the Flathead Basin to be inspected prior to launching within the Flathead Basin. The rule has been successful and is supported by many local stakeholders, including the Flathead Lakers.

During the 2019 boating season, more than 111,000 watercraft were inspected in Montana by partners and Fish, Wildlife, & Parks staff. Of those, 16 watercraft were intercepted transporting zebra or quagga mussels into the state, and more than 100 with aquatic weeds. Mandatory boat inspections are critical in the fight to keep invasive species out of our watershed.

Please take a moment to comment on your view to make mandatory boat inspections for the Flathead Basin permanent, and share this Action Alert with your friends, family, and neighbors. Comment period is open until January 24.
