Join us on Monday, August 3rd, at 6:30 pm on ZOOM for:
A tale of two porpoises: Mexico’s vaquita and China’s Yangtze finless porpoises
Dr. Barbara Taylor, Southwest Fisheries Science Center, NOAA
Dr. Taylor will take us through two contrasting stories about unique marine mammals and the threats they face around the world: one tragic and one inspiring.
With only about 10 individual vaquitas left, the tragic story of Mexico’s endemic porpoise relates the biology of this special desert porpoise and warns about the consequences of unsustainable fishing practices. In contrast, China has turned the fate of its endemic finless porpoise around through strong governance and a renewed commitment to cleaning up its waters before the mother river of China loses all her magical creatures. Join us for this fascinating story!
If you are unable to make it on Monday, we will post the presentation on the following day. Visit www.scienceontapflathead.org for more information.
